Spotter Briefing
Terrain in the search area consists of mixed and coniferous forest, peat bogs, and Canadian Shield. There are many lakes and rivers. The ground is generally low (elevation 750' to 1,000' ASL) and flat. Most of eastern Manitoba is undeveloped, with few roads or built up areas.
We will offer spotter familiarisation flights in the military CC-130 Hercules aircraft. Hercules flights will take place on Saturday only. There will be two flights, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Those spotters flying on the morning Hercules fllight will be taken from the hotel to the Canadian Forces Base for their flight. The Hercules will land at Gimli Airport and spotters will be swapped between the Hercules and CASARA aircraft over the lunch break.
